Industry leaders to gather in Brisbane

A packed program of presentations, workshops and panel discussions awaits attendees at next week’s Comms Connect Brisbane conference, to be held on 27 July at Rydges South Bank. The organisers have put together an excellent program of guest speakers, a workshop session and an open-forum discussion with an expert panel. The topics and speakers include:

  • The changing landscape of land mobile radio — threats and opportunities (presented by Hamish Duff, President, ARCIA)
  • Mission-critical communications in Queensland: a success story (Craig Anderson, Director ICT Service Development, Public Safety Business Agency)
  • Deployable trunked radio networks: the tropical cyclone Debbie operation (Craig Stolte, Queensland Fire & Emergency)
  • Integrated operations using smart, connected networks (David Abel, Business Development Consultant, Harris Corporation)
  • Optimising public and private data networks for communications assurance across diverse geographies (James Wetherall, Industry Solutions Manager, Emergency Services, Trapeze Group, Asia Pacific)
  • Spectrum for private LTE networks (Andrew May, Licensing Manager, Spectrum Engineering Australia)
  • LTE 101 — its strengths, weaknesses and application (Simon Lardner, Director, Challenge Networks)
  • TETRA in Brisbane Hotel and Casino (Malcolm Davies, Account Manager, Radlink Communications)
  • Futureproofing a DAS: securing your assets (Franz Obermoser, Telecommunications Project Engineer, Wood & Grieve Engineers)
  • The future for critical messaging (Brad Welch, General Manager, TPL Systems Asia Pacific)
  • Is satellite able to fill the gap? (Neil Jamieson, Managing Director, Wireless Innovation)
  • Considerations for public safety in a broadband world (Tim Whitfield, Zetron)

The workshop will be on the topic of ‘Delivering Project & Engineering Excellence on Converged Network Upgrades’ and will be led by Tait Communications Asia-Pacific Region Engineering Solutions Manager Andrew Smith.

Full details of the event, along with registration details, can be found on the Comms Connect Brisbane website.

And while you’re at it, book yourself in for ARCIA’s annual Queensland Industry Dinner and Networking event too, to be in the evening right after Comms Connect.

The Industry Dinner and Networking night is an opportunity to join other radio professionals and share the excitement of an energised industry that continues to grow and establish new wireless opportunities.

Member and non-member tickets can be purchased, with the option of booking a full table of 10 at a discount rate.

The guest speaker for the evening will be Jeff Miller, who is CEO of the Civil Contractors Federation (WA), a role he has held for nearly nine years. He has worked with Arthur Andersen and Alcoa Australia as an accountant and worked in the radio, marketing and communications industries for more than 15 years.

The Civil Contractors Federation throughout Australia partners with BIS Oxford Economics to produce an annual report which outlines the prospects of infrastructure investment throughout Australia. Like WA, Queensland is adjusting to a slowdown in the mining and resources sectors. Jeff will share what the construction landscape is expected to look like in the years ahead.

The evening will also see the announcement of the Queensland Industry Professional of the Year.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out for early-bird registration details for Comms Connect Melbourne (21–23 November, 2017). Registrations will open in August; you can sign up for news updates to ensure you don’t miss out on any vital information.

Finally, dates have been announced for two of next year’s events. For the first time, Comms Connect New Zealand (organised in conjunction with the RFUANZ) will be held in Auckland (in place of Wellington), from 2–3 May 2018, at the SkyCity event centre in the heart of the city. And Comms Connect Sydney will be held at a new venue, Rosehill Gardens, from 14–15 June, 2018. Rosehill, famous for its horse-racing track, is located right next to Parramatta in the geographical heart of Sydney.
