RFS remote monitoring suite

RFS has released a suite that allows remote control and monitoring of tower-top RF components.

Fully compliant with the latest revision of the open communications standard of the Antenna Interface Standards Group, the suite empowers carriers to optimise their networks in real time.

The device frees the user from the restrictions of proprietary control and monitoring systems, ensuring fast-track network retrofits and greenfield deployments.

It makes it possible for carriers to control and monitor tower-top components either locally (from the tower base) or remotely from the network's operations and maintenance centre.

The suite contains all key antenna line elements - the control network interface, a selection of tower-mount amplifiers, an antenna control unit and a modem bias-tee.

The set includes Network Element Manager software that has been designed for easy use to ensure fast-track network installation, commissioning and troubleshooting.

Step-by-step instructions provides access to a library of antenna line device diagnostics and settings, such as antenna tilt, azimuth adjustment and real-time system diagnostics.

The suite also has what is claimed to be the most compact and high-performance AISG version 2-compliant ACU. Its lightweight construction (470 g) helps reduce tower loading, while its small footprint and sleek design minimises environmental impact.

It provides a continuous torque of 0.15 Nm and has an angular resolution of better than 0.2°. The ACU has a non-volatile onboard memory, ensuring that all programming data is retained if the CNI has to be replaced or DC power is disconnected.

The 19" rack format CNI-P incorporates a power distribution unit, which supports up to six TMAs and 12 ACUs across three sectors. Individual ACU and TMA units are linked in a daisy chain configuration, with the CNI's network capable of supporting up to a total of 18 ALDs over a maximum cable length of 100 m.
