Speakers driven by wireless give hi-fi quality

04 August, 2008

Electronics graduate Glenn Boardman has won the 2008 Victorian Institution of Engineering and Technology Student Prize for designing wireless speakers that can reproduce hi-fi sound good enough for home theatre systems.

Technology guidelines

27 June, 2008

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released guidelines on how it will handle applications for licences to trial new technologies that make use of spectrum, such as digital broadcasting or wireless internet technologies.

Multi-channel radio module

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: RF Modules Australia

Radiometrix has introduced an addition to its LMT2/LMR2 transmitter/receiver series. Making use of the 458.525-459.1 MHz British frequency band (instead of the 433.875-434.650 MHz EU band used in previous versions), these higher power modules increase the distance over which they can communicate to 1 km, allowing engineers to enhance systems that previously had insufficient range (or insufficient link margin).

RF/DC crossover

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: ASD Technology Pty Ltd

Florida RF labs has released the RF/RF and RF/DC crossover with an integrated 2 W attenuator.

1000 V screwdriver set

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: RS

The Ergo 1000 V screwdriver set from Bacho includes four slotted and three PoziDrive tipped screwdrivers with colour-coded handles to aid identification.

Vibration-resistant module

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: RF Modules Australia

Aimed at applications where RF engineers need to consider the interference effects of nearby vibrating machinery, Radiometrix has developed the HVR2 receiver module, a high vibration-resistant version of the RLC2 that uses the company’s direct digital synthesiser (DDS) local oscillator design to make it almost totally immune to mechanical vibrations at frequencies below 500 Hz.

Amplifier drivers

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: ASD Technology Pty Ltd

Miteq has introduced a range of linear SSPA drivers. Three models cover all the common satellite communication bands, AMFLD-05700850-60-16P for C-/X-band, AMFLD-12501850-60-16P for Ku-/DBS-band and AMFLD-27003100-60-12P for Ka-band.

VC oscillator

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: Richardson Electronics Pty Ltd

Crystek’s CVCO55CC-1930-2110 VCO operates from 1930 to 2110 MHz with a control voltage range of 0.5-18. The VCO features a typical phase noise of -110 dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset and has good linearity.

RF modules

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: Nu Horizons Electronics Asia Pty Ltd

Nordic Semiconductor ASA says designers without specialist RF knowledge can now build an ultra-low power ISM-band wireless link into a product or application within hours by using pre-approved modules developed by RF Digital.

Pulse limiter

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: Westek Electronics Pty Ltd

The Schwartzbeck VTSD 9561-F diode pulse limiter with built-in 10 dB high power attenuator and fuse lamp protects sensitive measuring equipment when analysing spectra with high energy.

Integrated RF shielding

01 June, 2008 | Supplied by: RF Parts Australia Pty Ltd

RF Micro Devices has introduced its MicroShield integrated RF shielding.

Appointed to global marketing role

14 May, 2008

Radio Frequency Systems has appointed Eric Mariette as vice-president of global marketing and strategy. He is responsible for ensuring that the company’s portfolio of RF solutions is fully visible to the global wireless sector, and that the company’s expanding solution-set meets the demands of the industry.

Wireless networks that build themselves

30 April, 2008

Wireless sensors in embedded systems in devices from traffic lights to mobile phones, designed to create wireless communications networks automatically, could benefit a range of areas, including emergency management, security, helping vulnerable people to live independently, traffic control, warehouse management and environmental monitoring.

Is RF a danger to health? – Part Two

07 April, 2008 by Elizabeth Latham

This is the second part of a multi-part series looking at various RF effects including sperm count, interruption of sleep patterns and brain tumours. Researchers at the Cleveland Clinic in America studied 361 men at their infertility clinic to investigate the effect of mobile phone use on semen quality.
