Christchurch mayor to present at Disaster & Emergency Management Conference

Monday, 03 March, 2014

The Hon Lianne Dalziel, Mayor of Christchurch, will present at the Australian & New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference on the Gold Coast, 5-7 May.

Elected as mayor in October 2013, Dalziel is committed to creating “One City Together” - a unified, talented city council working with and listening to the community to create a resilient, sustainable city based on the strengths of its people.

As the MP for Christchurch East from 1999-2013, Dalziel had no greater challenge than supporting the city’s eastern suburbs after the Christchurch earthquakes. Within days of the September earthquake, she was organising community meetings so experts could explain to people what was happening to their land. She believes that by making sure people have clear and accurate information they can make informed decisions about their own future and that involving people in their own recovery is vital to building thriving communities.

The Australian & New Zealand Disaster and Emergency Management Conference is a joint initiative of three ‘not-for-profit’ organisations - the Australian Institute of Emergency Services, the Australian & New Zealand Mental Health Association and the Association Sustainability in Business.

A dynamic list of keynote speakers will discuss a range of subjects including emergency management, relief and recovery, policy and governance, human and social issues, community resilience, business continuity, risk and crisis management, and much more.

Registrations are open now. Early bird rates are available for bookings made by 28 March.
