Comms Connect NZ explores emerging technologies
The Southern Hemisphere’s premier critical communications event, Comms Connect, was held in New Zealand this week for the 10th time. Hundreds of attendees turned up to Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre from 4–5 June, keen to hear about the latest and greatest technologies for public safety and other mission-critical applications.
The conference component of the event featured 35 expert presenters speaking across two streams, with highlights including a look at the future roadmap for New Zealand’s world-leading Public Network; the exciting future of 5G; the use of comms in search and rescue; and a panel session discussing the impact of AI and other emerging technologies and their impact on critical communications. Meanwhile, the exhibition floor featured over 40 local and international vendors showcasing their products and services — from test and measurement instruments, to enclosures, to system design and more.
The 2025 RFUANZ Gala Dinner and Industry Excellence Awards were held on the evening of 4 June, recognising and acknowledging some standout figures in the New Zealand radio industry. MC on the night was respected journalist and news anchor Mike McRoberts, who captivated the audience with stories from his days as a war correspondent.
Comms Connect will return on 15–16 October with its flagship show at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre. For further updates, keep an eye on https://melbourne.comms-connect.com.au/.
