Comms Connect workshop explores latest spectrum developments

With Comms Connect Melbourne just one week away, more information is now available on the pre-conference workshop being presented by ARCIA on the afternoon of 13 October.

‘Radio Spectrum Management — The State of Play’ is a practical industry workshop presented by Spectrum Engineering Australia Pty Limited. Join industry experts Andrew May and Simon Palmer as they seek to demystify Australia’s complex spectrum landscape and regulatory requirements for critical communications professionals.

This comprehensive, module-driven session provides practical guidance across key frequency allocations, operational licensing and emerging wireless technologies. Key content covered includes the following:

  • Private networks: Potential changes ahead for public telecommunications services (1.8/2.1 GHz), plus guidance on Rail Mobile Radio (1.9 GHz) and highly localised point-to-multipoint systems (3.4/3.8 GHz).
  • Licensing frameworks: An in-depth breakdown of area-wide licensing (3.4 GHz and 28 GHz), spectrum licensing, device registrations, and satellite and Earth station licensing.
  • Specialised technologies: Insights into RNSS (GPS repeater stations), future 6 GHz wireless broadband plans, and ongoing Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) trials.
  • Ongoing management: Practical strategies for managing and maintaining your radio licences efficiently.

With rapidly evolving technology standards and shifting regulatory demands, proper spectrum allocation and compliance are critical to avoiding costly operational interference. This workshop is aimed at anyone involved in the planning, licensing or management of radio systems in Australia, particularly those responsible for the radio licences supporting network operations — so whether you deploy private networks, manage rail communications or oversee satellite links, the workshop delivers the direct insights you need to optimise your spectrum assets, streamline registrations and maintain regulatory compliance.

This is just one of four workshops being presented as part of Comms Connect Melbourne on 13 October, prior to the commencement of the main conference the following day. The full workshop program can be found here.
