Innovation leads the way at Comms Connect Melbourne

Comms Connect Melbourne 2025 brought together the brightest minds, leading vendors and frontline professionals from across the critical communications sector for a dynamic showcase of innovation, collaboration and sector-defining dialogue. Held at MCEC from 15–16 October, the event spotlighted the technologies and strategies shaping the future of secure, reliable and resilient communications across emergency services, utilities, transport and beyond.

The timing of Comms Connect Melbourne couldn’t have been more significant. In the wake of Cyclone Alfred’s devastating impact on parts of Queensland — underscoring the life-saving importance of reliable emergency communications — the conference served as a vital forum for sector-wide reflection and response. The event also coincided with Cyber Security Awareness Month in Australia, highlighting the critical role of cyber resilience in protecting communications infrastructure from escalating threats. Across sessions and on the exhibition floor, conversations repeatedly returned to the need for robust, secure systems that can withstand both environmental disasters and digital attacks; an urgent challenge faced by governments, emergency services and critical industries alike.

A highlight of the program was the ARCIA Gala Dinner and Industry Excellence Awards, held on the evening of 15 October, celebrating outstanding achievements and leadership within the Australian radio communications industry. Among the standout honourees was Elnaz Karimpour, Embedded Software Engineer at Simoco, who received the Emerging Talent Award in recognition of her technical expertise and rising influence in the sector. The prestigious Jonathan Livingstone Seagull Award — the highest honour of the night — was meanwhile awarded to Scott Manson, Projects Director and co-founder of Radlink Communications, applauding his longstanding contribution, innovation and leadership in shaping the critical communications landscape.

From cutting-edge radio systems to emerging broadband solutions, Comms Connect Melbourne has reaffirmed its role as a vital hub for connection and progress in a rapidly evolving landscape.

Comms Connect will return in 2026 with events in Wellington and Melbourne. For further updates, keep an eye on https://www.comms-connect.com.au/.
