The IC-M23 ‘Float’n Flash’ VHF handheld marine radio combines buoyant construction with a flashing feature, allowing it to be detected in the water.
The radio is the said to be the smallest and lightest floating 5 W handheld marine radio available.
The flashing feature works by using water as a conductor to complete an electrical circuit. When the contacts on the radio hit the water, a small electrical charge can reach the LED and the radio will begin to flash, allowing it to be identified in the water. The radio will flash in the water even when turned off.
The unit weighs about 260 g with a water-ingress protection rating of IPX7. Energy-saving circuitry has also been incorporated, as a 3.7 V/1500 mAh battery will power the unit for 10 h (typical usage Tx:Rx:standby = 5:5:90).
A one-push instant maximum audio helps provide clear communications in noisy environments and the AquaQuake draining function removes water from the speaker grill, should the radio fall overboard.
Large, backlit buttons and LCD offer ease of use, even during extreme conditions. Dual/tri watch functions are also featured on the radio, meaning the user can switch between channels.
