Ubidyne and Kathrein have teamed to develop an integrated broadband wireless base station antenna.
Ubidyne’s approach leads to a fundamentally different site architecture compared with conventional base station architectures. The combination of the RRH (remote radio head) functionality, with the possibility to individually address each antenna element, allows improvements in downlink and uplink performance and provides a maximum level of beam control and flexibility.
Ubidyne’s standards-agnostic digital antenna embedded micro-radio technology is compatible with current and next-generation standards and eliminates the need for coaxial feeder cables and additional equipment on antenna towers and masts.
The technology reduces energy consumption while improving performance, deployment flexibility, coverage and capacity of mobile communications networks.
The antenna includes digital up-conversion from baseband to RF and a digital down. It also includes conversion from RF to baseband as well as digital power amplification for transmission and digital low-noise amplification for reception.
Advantages of their combined strength include cost savings in network deployment, an easing of site acquisition problems and performance improvements enhancing coverage and capacity.
