FreeMic has been released following the launch of FreeMotion, claimed to be the world's first secure wireless headset for two-way radios. Both devices use 'near field magnetic communications' that uses the magnetic field component of radio waves to create a small communications 'bubble' that envelops the personal space of the radio user.
This is claimed to give superior reliability, security and power efficiency over RF-based devices that rely on the electric field component of the RF energy.
Both devices are lightweight and feature an onboard PTT switch, optional voice activation and volume adjustment. Their embedded Li-Ion polymer battery holds 20 h of talk time and can be charged in the field. The industrial strength plastic construction is rated for all weather use.
