RFM has released its Radio Module Product Line, which combines amplifier-sequenced hybrid (ASH) radio technology with low current microcontrollers, battery-conserving communication protocol methods and efficient miniature antennas.

By using an integrated design approach that encompasses all aspects of a low-power radio link, the radio modules are optimised with respect to RF link performance and long battery life.

In addition, RFM offers a wide range of product packaging options, plus specialised and high volume manufacturing resources, ensuring the meeting of certification criteria for all major radio regulations.

Applications include: automatic utility meter reading; energy management; industrial telemetry and control; wireless security and access control; sports and recreational equipment; sensor networks; and healthcare.

General module specifications include: a frequency range of 300 to 960 MHz; a data rate of 1.2 Kbps to 1 Mbps; a supply voltage range of 2.2 to 3.7 VDC; a receive current of 1.75 to 4.5 mA (data rate dependent); an average transmitter current of 2 to 6 mA (output power dependent); a sleep current of 5 to 50 µA (microprocessor dependent); an open field range of 50 to 250 m (data rate dependent); acknowledged packet transmissions with DC-balanced data encoding and ISO 3309 error detection, available with integrated sleep cycle for very low battery drain; integrated application software available on a custom basis; and a monopole antenna as standard with dipole, slot, patch and other antennas available on a custom basis.
