u-blox LEA-6R GPS module

u-blox has released LEA-6R, a next-generation GPS module supplied with ‘sensor fusion dead-reckoning’ technology.

The module is designed for after-market devices requiring uninterrupted navigation even during poor GPS signal reception. When GPS satellites are out of sight, location is extrapolated using distance and angle information from the gyroscope and speed-pulse sensors.

This makes the device suitable for applications such as fleet and asset management, road pricing and insurance systems as well as automatic vehicle location.

It is a stand-alone solution requiring no host integration. It adapts to all vehicle types, allowing pulse input via direct analog signal or via USB or UART. It is both hardware and firmware compatible with the previous generation of LEA-4R and interfaces directly to the vehicle odometer and gyroscope.
