APCO Australasia public safety event speakers

Thursday, 25 July, 2013

Next week, APCO Australasia will hold Public Safety Innovation seminars in Melbourne (30 July at the Novotel Glen Waverley) and Sydney (1 August at ANZ Stadium). Key topics covered will include mobile devices, cloud computing, operational efficiency, emerging technologies, strategic planning, social media and public safety apps.

The headline speakers will be Richard Keith from Motorola Solutions Inc (USA) and Charlie Hawkins from CSIRO.

Keith will speak on the topic ‘A new era of mobile intelligence - Helping public safety agencies build safer, resilient communities’. His presentation will describe how public safety agencies in Australia are all facing similar challenges; how to do more with less; transforming data and turning it into meaningful intelligence; and building statewide community resilience. He will discuss these challenges and highlight a new vision for the future direction of public safety: the era of mobile intelligence, where applications dominate, response becomes predictive and intelligence becomes environmental.

Keith will describe new technologies and solutions that are being developed globally that will help to address these common issues and what steps are needed to help agencies start this new technology journey.

Hawkins will speak on the topic ‘Disaster risk reduction for communities - Infrastructure, information and applications’. He will discuss the need to sustain and strengthen disaster management efforts and better prepare for emergency situations - specifically, how knowledge of hazard behaviour and impacts will support emergency response operations and deliver the greatest impact. His presentation will cover the overarching social, economic and environmental costs, and, for industry, the return on investment, risk-based resource allocation and performance management outcomes of disaster management is necessary - as well as knowing how to effectively harness community and volunteer networks to counteract and overcome disasters.

More information and booking details are available on the APCO Australasia website.
