Comms Connect kicks off next week with preconference workshops
Doors are opening next week for Comms Connect Melbourne, recognised as the major conference and expo for critical communications and public safety professionals in the Southern Hemisphere. Over 1500 visitors are expected to descend on the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for the event, so if you haven’t secured your ticket yet, now’s the time to do so.
Preconference activities will commence on 14 October with half-day workshops from Comms Connect association partners ARCIA and ACCF/TCCA, to be held across two streams. In Stream 1, ARCIA’s workshop ‘Introduction to P25 Standards and Systems’ will introduce students to the P25 digital land mobile radio standard. Modules include a high-level overview of the P25 digital radio standard as a transmission medium, including the TIA standards, modulation, vocoders and channel access. The information is introductory in nature and designed for all audiences; however, a basic understanding of radio communications would be beneficial.
In Stream 2, TCCA and its Australasian chapter, ACCF, will hold two workshops on the top of advancing critical communications for a safe and more connected world. A complimentary online training course from the Critical Communications Institute (CCI), ‘Broadband Radio Systems for Critical Communications’, is included with registration for either of these workshops.
The morning workshop will look at the development of standardised critical LMR, LTE/4G, 5G and satellite communications, with topics and case studies covering LTE/DRM integration; MCX solutions; hybrid MCX, LMR and satellite connectivity; 5G digital transformation across industries; and next-generation communication and control rooms. The afternoon workshop covers the development and deployment of critical broadband around the globe, where standardisation and certification bodies, vendors, integrators, operators and government agencies are working towards augmenting well-established narrowband networks with critical broadband capability. It will share local and international experience and expertise to understand the future directions of standards-based critical communication solutions.
The conference proper will be held on 15–16 October, with over 60 thought leaders from across the region and the globe set to share their expertise across three exciting streams. Meanwhile, the exhibition hall will host over 80 local and international critical communications and public safety technology vendors, including Innovation Partner Telstra as well as Platinum Sponsors such as Etherstack, Hypha, Kenwood, L3Harris, RFI Technology Solutions and Tait Communications.
