FCC authorises 700 MHz TDD. Access Spectrum has been granted permission to use TDD equipment in the Upper 700 MHz A Block band across two-thirds of the US. Access has developed equipment that will comply with FCC rules and prevent harmful interference to uses on neighbouring parts of the spectrum.
Telstra, Ericsson and HTC test 700 MHz 4G. Telstra has undertaken a test of 4G data transfer in the 700 MHz band. The test took place in a rural area in New South Wales. The company will gain full access to the spectrum in January 2015. The test involved Ericsson and an advanced HTC smartphone.
Massive MIMO in 96-antenna array. Researchers at Rice University in the USA have developed a 96-antenna rig for testing 'Massive MIMO' concepts. Called Argos, the system promises to significantly boost capacity on radio networks. An earlier test bed that had 64 antennas showed that capacity could be boosted by more than a factor of 10.
