Launch of satellite mobile service
Globalstar has launched its Mobile everywhere product at the ATUG (Australian Telecommunications Users Group) 2004 Regional Conference being held this month.
Mobile everywhere is a mobile service that uses a standard handheld mobile phone capable of operating on the cellular networks and over satellite providing users with 100% coverage of Australia and up to 200 nautical miles offshore. Additional benefits include: a single subscription dual mode satellite and CDMA service, complementing Globalstar Australia's existing dual mode satellite and GSM service; a mobile satellite service that is mobile number portability compliant; offering 100% coverage within Australia and up to 200 nautical miles offshore; users charged for outgoing calls only; and calls to Globalstar charged to the caller at normal calls to mobile rates.
Customers can choose to purchase the dual mode GSM and satellite handset and subscription or to purchase the dual mode CDMA and satellite handset and subscription. Both options provide 100% coverage and come with a range of standard mobile services such as voicemail and call forwarding. Using just one handset customers receive one itemised account for their cellular and satellite connected calls and have one mobile number which can be conveniently ported from their existing cellular number to their Globalstar service.
