Marine radio exams go open book
Good news for those looking to apply for a Marine Radio Operators VHF Certificate of Proficiency (MROVCP) - applicants are now able to sit their MROVCP through the Australian Maritime College (AMC) as an open-book examination. This change to the examination process recognises the breadth of information contained in the syllabus and reflects the feedback from marine stakeholders on assessment tools and standards.
Only the MROCP and MROVCP handbooks produced by the AMC are allowed to be used as reference material during the MROVCP exam.
Consultation is also continuing with marine stakeholder groups on the draft syllabus of the VHF Australian Waters Qualification (AWQ). With the syllabus now nearing completion, the next step is to ascertain how this syllabus may be incorporated into the Maritime Training Package. Discussions are being held with Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) about the appropriate marine occupations that may benefit from the new qualification.
