Mat Jones appointed CEO of BAI Communications
BAI Communications, a provider of mission-critical communications infrastructure, has announced the appointment of Mat Jones as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 January 2027.
Jones is set to lead the company through its next phase of growth, underpinned by recent contract wins including Sydney Metro West, the strategic acquisition of Titan ICT, management of the NSW Public Safety Network, and established long-term partnerships with Australia’s broadcasters. He was appointed by the BAI board, following a global search, for his proven ability to deliver growth, innovation and customer outcomes in complex, digital infrastructure environments.
“Mat brings the vision and proven operational capability required to execute our growth strategy and capitalise on significant opportunities across our core business and into emerging infrastructure sectors,” said Board Chair Bart Vogel. “His experience will be invaluable as we continue to expand.”
Jones has extensive experience in the sector, with a track record of adding significant value to the digital infrastructure businesses he has been involved with. He previously advised Morrisons Bank on its acquisition of approximately 8000 towers from Telstra to form Amplitel; he then served as Chief Operating Officer of Amplitel, where he helped transform the business into a leading tower company supporting the mobile and enterprise sectors.
“I am excited to join BAI at a pivotal time,” Jones said. “BAI is a dynamic digital infrastructure business that has earned the trust to deliver the country’s most essential communications infrastructure, from the radio communications systems powering Sydney Metro West to longstanding work with Australia’s broadcasters, the NSW Telco Authority, and the mobile operators. I look forward to working with the board, executive team and, most importantly, BAI employees to realise the significant opportunities ahead.”
To ensure business continuity, current CEO Peter Lambourne will remain in his role through 31 December 2026 and will, upon transition, support the new CEO and facilitate knowledge transfer. The executive team, board and shareholder structures remain unchanged, with continued backing from majority shareholder CPP Investments and minority shareholder AIMCo.
“We are delighted to welcome Mat to BAI,” Lambourne said. “The board’s comprehensive search process identified a leader whose expertise and strategic insight are well-suited to BA’s next phase of development. Mat brings a valuable external perspective alongside proven success in delivering growth in complex infrastructure environments. I look forward to working with him over the coming months to share my knowledge of our customer relationships and markets, ensuring a seamless transition and sustained momentum.”
