Motorola Solutions to acquire counter-drone company

Motorola Solutions has announced it is to acquire counter-drone technology company D-Fend Solutions (D-Fend) for a purchase price of US$1.5 billion. D-Fend’s technology is used by government, public safety and enterprise organisations across more than 30 countries.

Securing airspace against unauthorised drones is a rapidly increasing global necessity, with an evolving regulatory landscape opening greater access to solutions. Consumer and commercial drones are increasingly used for malicious activities. D-Fend’s solution is designed to support operational continuity for authorised drones to perform their assigned tasks, by isolating and safely removing rogue drones from the airspace. This helps avoid collateral damage and costly area-wide shutdowns.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, subject to required regulatory approvals and satisfaction of other customary closing conditions.
