New Zealand begins 5G technical consultation

In expectation of the initiation of 5G services around the 2020 timeframe, New Zealand’s Radio Spectrum Management has prepared a consultation document addressing which bands might be used for 5G spectrum and their allocation.

RSM is seeking feedback on those matters, as well as on any other perceived barriers to the rollout of 5G.

Interested parties have been invited to comment on the issues raised by the consultation document and any other matters related 5G in New Zealand.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, 30 April 2018.

Meanwhile, RSM has also announced that the Operational Satellite Policy rules (PIB 60) document was published in March.

The document specifies the processes required for satellite filing requests, satellite services international frequency coordination, and licensing requirements for satellite services in New Zealand.

RSM says that approved radio engineers and certifiers need to read the document when certifying radio licences applicable to space services in conjunction (where applicable) with the relevant rules in PIB 38, PIB 39, PIB 58 and PIB 59.
