Rail and vehicle comms tech at Comms Connect Melbourne next month

The Comms Connect 2024 conference program features several presentations highlighting the latest in critical communications technology for the rail networks and emergency services vehicles. Below is a brief taste of over 60 presentations that will be delivered over two days at the MCEC on 16–17 October.

Bahador Nayebifar, Principal Rail Engineer at Mott MacDonald, will discuss the practical application of model-based systems engineering in deploying the Future Railway Mobile Communications System (FRMCS). As the global railway sector moves from GSM-R to FRMCS, there are many technical considerations that need to be undertaken.

Gravelroad Group Partner Matt Schultz will share some insights linked to a project the company undertook recently with an Australian rail authority. His presentation explores the innovative concept of Internet of Things virtual network operators (IoTVNOs) in the rail industry. By leveraging existing rail connectivity and passive infrastructure, IoTVNOs can enhance connectivity, improve operational efficiency, and generate new revenue streams.

Jamie Smith from Micro Connect will deliver a case study on a recently deployed integrated traffic signal priority system for Northern Territory emergency vehicles. With the system now running live with St John Ambulance, Smith will discuss the technology behind the system and give insights into the developments globally in the emergency services signal priority ecosystem.
