Registrations are now open for ACMA’s RadComms2014: Spectrum rebooted - taking stock conference in Sydney in September.

The keynote address will be given by the Minister for Communications, The Hon Malcolm Turnbull, MP, who will be followed by an impressive line-up of international and domestic speakers exploring the big issues facing the future of spectrum management in Australia.

The event will take place from 10-11 September 2014 at the Australian National Maritime Museum, Darling Harbour, Sydney. Attendance cost is $760 (including GST) and registrations close on 27 August.

A range of spectrum issues will be discussed, including:

  • How can spectrum regulation be a key driver of growth, innovation and productivity?
  • How does the changing regulatory landscape affect how we manage and license radio communications in the future?
  • What are the current reform initiatives for radio communications regulation and how can they encourage technology evolution and improve competition?
  • What opportunities exist for moving spectrum to its highest value use and providing greater access to spectrum?

There will be six sessions held over the two days.

Day one will look at productivity and innovation in the radio communications sector, discussing automated technologies and new uses of spectrum. This will be followed by an examination of how to balance the competing needs of existing and new users of spectrum, and what trade-offs users should expect as the demand for access increases in both groups.

Day two will begin with an examination of the pressures placed on spectrum-management frameworks to respond to known and emerging spectrum-management challenges - from the perspective of both the domestic industry and our international regulators.

The final session will be an extensive panel discussion where delegates can chat to government and industry representatives about what they expect to emerge from the review of the spectrum policy and management framework.

A draft agenda is available on the ACMA website.
