Telstra expanding 4G coverage
Responding to demand for superfast mobile services, Telstra says it will boost its 4G coverage to include a further 200 towns across Australia in the next six months.
The telco says the program will take the company’s 4G coverage to 85% of the national population by Christmas this year, up from 66% at the end of June.
So far, Telstra has: deployed more than 2000 4G base stations, providing services available in each capital city and many suburbs, as well as more than 100 regional areas; and had 20 MHz of contiguous spectrum in the 1800 MHz band in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth and 15 MHz in Sydney and Melbourne.
By Christmas 2013, Telstra says it will have 4G available in more than 300 towns and deploy 4G equipment to more than 3500 base stations.
