WIA trials online exams
The Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) has introduced a trial online exam system as a 'proof of concept'.
The trial currently includes two theory assessments at Standard level, to be followed soon by two more at Advanced level.
The trial exams are available on the Silvertrain website.
In other WIA news, a Charter for WIA Volunteers has been produced, based on principles defined by Volunteering Australia.
The Charter has been under development since last year, with two drafts produced and feedback solicited from the amateur radio community.
You can find the Charter here (PDF).
Finally, in US news, the number of amateur radio operators continues to climb, with more than 30,000 licences added in 2016 — the third year in a row for which that number was exceeded.
32,552 licences were issued in 2016, 32,077 in 2015 and 33,241 in 2014.
As of November 2016, there were 743,003 active FCC-issued amateur radio licences — an all-time high.
