VIDEO: Lessons learned from the summer bushfires
Last month, the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) presented a webinar on lessons learned from the 2019–20 Australian bushfire season, featuring as its special guest Steve Warrington — CEO of Victoria’s Country Fire Authority. He was joined by Claire Kowalewski, Director General of the European Commission’s European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations organisation.
In the webinar, a recording of which you can view below, Warrington and Kowalewski discussed what happened exactly during the fires and why there were so severe, how Australian firefighters succeeded in managing the challenge, how international help was coordinated, and what went right and what went wrong.
In addition, Kowalewski presented an update of recent developments regarding the European Civil Protection Pool, which is a collection of emergency response teams and assets that can be made available to countries facing a severe crisis, such as large-scale forest fires.
