EENA releases AML report card
Advanced Mobile Location (AML) is a safety feature built into telecommunications networks that identifies when a call is being made to an emergency number and then sends the device’s location as a free-of-charge SMS to the emergency call centre.
The feature has been integrated in nearly all mobile phones for a few years now, but few countries have implemented it.
A European Electronic Communications Code has made AML implementation mandatory in all member states by December 2020, although according to the European Emergency Number Association (EENA), only 15 countries worldwide currently use AML.
EENA has produced its first annual AML Report Card, which details how AML is deployed and operated in each country and how their systems compare with each other.
