Electronic warfare operational support inquiry announced

An inquiry will be conducted by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Works with regards to the provision of facilities to support Australia’s electronic warfare capabilities by the Department of Defence.

The Joint Project 500 (JP500) is a multiphase project, with the objective of Phase 2 being to provide fit-for-purpose facilities and infrastructure that is capable of supporting the new system’s installation electronic warfare detection and countermeasure technologies.

A new building within the Edinburgh Defence precinct in South Australia will house laboratories, workshops, simulation equipment, testing support systems, office space and staff amenities.

The estimated cost of the project is $24.9 million and it is anticipated that the committee will conduct public and in-camera hearings for the inquiry early in 2017.
