German Federal security forces equipped with tiny TETRA radios
German Federal security forces will be kitted out with the smallest TETRA handheld radios currently available in the world, according to Airbus Defence and Space.
TH1n handheld radios will be given out to certain German Federal security forces through Airbus over the next two years, part of a framework agreement between the partners running until the end of 2017, and covering the supply of TH1n terminal equipment, software and maintenance for the devices.
Airbus said the TH1n is the smallest TETRA radio in the world, designed for users to easily carry it in a jacket pocket, on a belt or in a purse, and therefore suitable for clandestine operations (covert HRT).
In addition to the conventional requirements for a Public Safety Digital Radio (BOS) radio device, this configuration offers multiple audio solutions for discreet radio communication. Users can also operate the TH1n via a small and ergonomic remote control unit.
The company said even though it is light in weight and small in stature, the handheld radio behaves like a robust, fully fledged TETRA radio with a range of performance features. With its existing certification it can also be integrated into the new BOS digital radio network.
An output rating of 1.8 W provides additional range in areas of poor network coverage, while the repeater function when operating in direct mode allows teams to create a communication channel between participants.
