Interoperable European broadband explored at workshop

An EU-funded project designed to develop interoperable broadband applications and radio communications will hold a workshop to provide information about the next steps after its conclusion.

The BroadMap consortium will hold the workshop in Brussels, Belgium, targeting practitioners, companies, research centres and universities interested in broadband technologies for public protection and disaster relief (PPDR).

Interoperability of cross-border communications is becoming increasingly important for EU first responders and police agencies in times of crisis, including natural disasters or terrorist attacks.

BroadMap’s primary goal is to collect and validate the PPDR organisations’ existing requirements, with the aim to establish a core set of specifications and roadmap for procurement.

The project implements a coordination and support action (CSA) with the purpose to inform and guide the future procurement of research and development, networks and devices and their deployment to realise new interoperable broadband networks, and the ecosystems of applications and services to support the PPDR and critical communications community.

The next step will be to prepare for the €10 million EU call for innovation procurement on broadband communication systems. This will prepare for a pre-commercial prototype of EU-interoperable broadband radiocommunication system for public safety and security, providing better services to first responders and police agencies.

The workshop will be held on 6 April 2017 in Brussels.
