Leidos to overhaul UK police command and control system
London’s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is set to receive a new command and control system for officer deployment in a Leidos-led upgrade.
The 10-year program will see Leidos, along with Frequentis, Hexagon Safety and Infrastructure and Chaucer Consulting, deliver a flexible system that captures emergency communication from the public and helps dispatch officers to incidents, pre-planned events and other operations, Leidos explained.
The new system will include a “modern, easy-to-use, cloud-based solution”, as well as “map-centric software” to help MPS better visualise officers’ locations, improve operational efficiencies and keep London’s citizens and visitors safe, Leidos said.
It’s also expected to use Frequentis’s LifeX system, a web-based call-centre solution capable of automatic call distribution, integrated voice response, recording, information management and integration with Airwave (TETRA) as well as – in future – the UK’s emergency services network, Frequentis said.
This will help ensure the control room can manage and respond to a range of communication paths, reduce emergency response times and simplify emergency contact, Frequentis added.
Hexagon’s OnCall system will be deployed to help with dispatch, analytics, mobility and major event management, Hexagon said.
LifeX and OnCall have already demonstrated compatibility, according to Frequentis.
“The new Metropolitan Police Service Command and Control System will play an essential role in keeping millions of citizens safe in London. We believe this program will deliver significant and lasting operational benefits to the Met, helping to maintain their status as an exemplary police service,” Leidos UK and Europe Chief Executive Simon Fovargue said.
