Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment reviews 2.1 GHz acquisition limits
New Zealand’s Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment is reviewing the acquisition limits (‘spectrum caps’) on spectrum holdings in the 2.1 GHz band used for 3G mobile.
The current limits expire in August 2014, but the government has the option to extend the deeds. The Minister for Communications and Information Technology is considering whether the current limits should be extended for a further three-year period or allowed to lapse altogether.
The ministry has released a discussion document, available here, which considers these options. The ministry invites feedback on the paper to be submitted no later than 3 April.
Feedback can be emailed to radiospectrum@mbie.govt.nz with the subject line “2.1 GHz acquisition limits review”.
