Rakel upgrade imminent for Sweden
Rakel, the Swedish radiocommunications network, will likely receive an upgrade in the near future to address future security threats.
Airbus Defence and Space, the provider of the network, and the Rakel management and control systems office have outlined their desire to work together on the network’s extension and upgrade. The plan was discussed at Rakel Day 2016, which was held in Stockholm in early October.
Rakel Day has positioned itself as an important forum for the community of public protection and disaster relief in Sweden. The event at the Stockholmsmässan saw a gathering of both distributors and radio manufacturers, as well as presenting a large range of products. These included repeaters, terminals and control room solutions.
Decision-makers in this field have expressed their willingness to cooperate more closely to find efficient technical application solutions for handling emergency situations quickly and appropriately. Intensified cross-border cooperation in terms of professional mobile radio interoperability in Europe would highlight this aim.
Airbus Defence and Space attracted attention with LTE-capable products on its stand at Rakel Day. The 850 visitors, including police officers and rescuers, were especially interested in the Tactilon Dabat, a terminal integrating a complete TETRA handheld radio and a rugged smartphone in one device, and the Tactilon Agnet, a group call app for photo and video transmission.
