Repeaters deployed to beat Hawaiian lava flow

In late 2014, Hawaii’s Kiauea volcano sent lava oozing towards Highway 130 and the town of Pahoa, threatening to cut off supply routes to over 15,000 residents and wipe out houses and township properties.

Faced with a potential loss of communications, the Codan Radio team was requested to deliver repeater modules in record time to a customer in the heart of the disaster to ensure the town didn’t lose communications.

Realising the urgency of the situation, the Codan team with partner Alster Communications was able to configure and deliver the MT-4E repeater modules, ensuring the safety and communications availability for residents in the area.

“The modules arrived in perfect order. We deployed them to a 100% solar powered site ... the audio quality is unbelievable. Coupled with the excellent location the repeater sets a new standard,” said the relieved customer.

“Helping customers in times of critical importance is at the heart of Codan; we ensure we can meet customers’ needs with a reliable solution, no matter how small or big the problem,” said Ben Pearce, LMR sales director for Codan Radio Communications.
