Brookfield Rail's $2.5m comms upgrade
Western Australia rail network operator, Brookfield Rail, is conducting a $2.5 million upgrade of its radio communications system.
The company says the aim is to improve the safety, efficiency and operability of communications along the 190 km railway line from Perth to Bunbury.
The work involves the installation of nine radio towers which will service the Perth to Bunbury line as well as the lines from Brunswick to Hamilton and Collie.
The work is due to be completed this month.
“The South West is one of the busiest sections of the freight rail network, and this upgrade will reduce the chance of radio blackspots, improving communications and futureproofing this vital connection from the region into Perth,” said the company’s general manager of asset management and projects, Paul Lowney.
“The project is just one example of Brookfield Rail’s long-term commitment to improving the safety, efficiency and reliability of the state’s freight rail network.”
As well as installing the new towers, along the line between Brunswick and Collie teams will replace copper cable with a new microwave radio system.
