Ericsson antennas to boost Optus's 5G network efficiency
Optus and Ericsson have announced a strengthened partnership to deploy high-performance antennas designed to enhance the coverage, capacity and energy efficiency of Optus’s 5G network. The agreement will see the delivery of Ericsson Antenna System (EAS) solutions tailored to Optus’s operational needs, helping to boost coverage and capacity for customers while supporting Optus’s sustainability goals.
The EAS portfolio is set to bring a variety of benefits in the areas where the antennas are rolled out, including:
- more consistent 5G coverage and speed in more places;
- stronger indoor and outdoor signals, even in busy city areas or deep inside buildings;
- reduced energy usage for Optus while maintaining high network performance; and
- a future-ready 5G experience, helping keep the Optus network responsive and ready for tomorrow’s digital needs.
According to the companies, rigorous field trials have confirmed the superior performance of Ericsson’s antenna technology compared to existing solutions, demonstrating its ability to maintain high network performance at lower power output. The introduction of the technology should thus help to provide a high-performing, energy-efficient and sustainable network that meets the evolving needs of Australian consumers and businesses.
“This agreement further extends our strong collaboration with Optus in delivering high-performing, energy-efficient solutions that support Australia’s 5G evolution,” said Ludvig Landgren, Head of Ericsson Australia and New Zealand. “By leveraging our latest innovations, we are helping Optus continue to deliver an outstanding customer experience while advancing its sustainability goals.”
Kent Wu, Nokia’s Vice President, Network Strategy & Architecture, added, “Our ongoing collaboration and innovation with Ericsson allows us to bring the latest advancements in 5G technology to our customers. The performance improvements demonstrated during field trials confirm that Ericsson’s antennas will provide Optus with greater network efficiency, improved spectral utilisation and long-term energy savings. This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering superior connectivity experience while continuing to enhance the sustainability of our network operations.”
