Norfolk Island Telecom to implement 4G services
Norfolk Island Telecom has chosen Blue Arcus and Speedcast to install a multimillion-dollar 4G LTE project and fixed-IP network upgrade that will span across the island.
Norfolk Island Telecom wants to evolve from a 2G network to 4G LTE network with 3G for circuit switch fall back, to boost the quality of mobile data services and provide faster and more reliable internet connectivity.
The telco will also upgrade its legacy PSTN system to a fixed-IP network with integrated online charging system for customer billing and revenue management for all of its services.
The upgrade to 4G is particularly important given the number of tourists who visit the island.
“We need to keep up with the increasing data requirements of our people and tourists at a competitive price and provide faster, reliable internet connections and advanced mobile services,” said Alistair Innes-Walker, Manager Commercial Services at Norfolk Island Regional Council.
