NZ increases available bandwidth for SRDs

Tuesday, 02 February, 2016

The spectrum available in New Zealand for short range devices (SRDs) has increased by an additional bandwidth of 6 MHz in the 900 MHz Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band following the release of the Radiocommunications Regulations (General User Radio Licence for Short Range Devices) Notice 2016.

As of 18 January 2016, the update expands provision in the 900 MHz ISM band from 921–928 MHz to 915–928 MHz.

This change harmonises the lower edge of the ISM band at 915 MHz with that of Australia.

In particular, this notice expands provisions in the frequency ranges 915–928 MHz (previously 921–928 MHz) at maximum power up to 0 dBW (EIRP) and 920–928 MHz (previously 921.5–928 MHz) at maximum power up to 6 dBW (EIRP).

However, for operation within these frequency ranges there are New Zealand specific unwanted emission limits as specified under Condition 23.

For simplicity, Condition 23 is amended to specify unwanted emission limits below 915 and above 928 MHz.

The new version is available on the New Zealand Gazette website.
