Rohde & Schwarz, Leidos team for US aviation project
The US division of Rohde & Schwarz has announced a collaboration with Leidos to support the latter’s recently awarded Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Future Flight Services Program (FFSP) contract.
Working as a subcontractor, Rohde & Schwarz USA will work to modernise the voice communications system (VCS) for FFSP by providing a new central communication platform.
Employing the Rohde & Schwarz VCS-4G system, the FAA will be able to deploy two geographically separated systems plus a Technology Support Laboratory system with a total of 200 controller working positions.
The redundant modular system will enable Flight Service Specialists at Flight Service Data Centres to handle calls from anywhere in the continental US and Caribbean.
It will also enable load sharing between centres during periods of heavy traffic and consolidation of services to a single service centre when traffic is light.
