Sydney Metro trains under test

The first Sydney Metro train is undergoing testing on the tracks ahead of services starting in 2019.

The state-of-the-art train is currently at Sydney Metro HQ at Rouse Hill, where the brakes, acceleration, passenger information displays, lighting and door operations are being tested.

The train testing will expand to Cudgegong Road station in Rouse Hill and on to the skytrain. It will eventually run through the new twin 15 km tunnels between Bella Vista and Epping.

The Sydney Metro rail project will be served by a groundbreaking TETRA radio system provided by MCS Digital in collaboration with Teltronic.

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said the testing is a major milestone for Sydney Metro.

“Safety is Sydney Metro’s number one priority and the testing is being done in close consultation with the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator,” Constance said.

The Sydney Metro will start in north-west Sydney in the first half of 2019, where a train will run every four minutes during peak times in each direction.
