Tender released for new WA rail operations control centre
The WA Government has released a design tender for its future rail operations control centre.
The tender seeks a company to help develop a concept design which will enable the Public Transport Authority to prepare a project business case.
In September 2017, the state government committed $7.4 million over two years to plan the new signalling system known as Automatic Train Control (ATC) for the Transperth network.
The ATC system would likely require a modern and resilient train control building.
ATC will dramatically change the way the Transperth rail network operates, gradually replacing the ageing signalling network with an automatic digital version.
The ATC system will use state-of-the-art technology and enable more trains to travel more frequently on the rail network.
The new tender will enable the early steps in a process to deliver the project, which remains subject to government approval.
"The expansion of METRONET will involve a higher frequency on various parts of the network, and a new control system will greatly assist efficient operation of our trains," said Transport Minister Rita Saffioti.
"This tender will seek consultants to design and scope out what the options are for delivering this project, and what the long-term costs and benefits are likely to be, to better inform the business case."
