Exicom has released the EX8610 and EX8620 radios, ethernet-based transport systems designed to meet the requirements of industrial and telco applications, providing ethernet plus 4E1 PDH services.

PCM-based telephone and voice services will soon be added. Both radio systems are available for licensed and unlicensed bands from VHF to 6 GHz.

The radios are primarily aimed at applications requiring reliability and performance, making them suitable for public safety, disaster recovery networks, industrial switching networks, SCADA, rural broadband, VoIP services, WISPs and mobile backhaul.

The low and fixed latency makes them especially useful for applications such as power protection networks.

The series combines Wi-Fi architecture with the best features of WiMAX and WiLDNet to overcome the distance and performance limitations of traditional wireless ethernet.

Using true TDM technology effectively eliminates packet collisions and extends the range to that of traditional microwave trunking networks up to 120 km per point-to-point hop. A multipoint configuration is also available.

The radios features include indoor and outdoor/pole mounting options, space diversity or 1+1 protected options and network management is provided with user-configurable alarms that can be set on the interface, GUI or via email alerts.

The EX8610 can be configured for either TDM or CSMA operation, which provides for half or full duplex operation and can also be configured for asymmetric or symmetric data transmission.

The EX8620 is TDM only and can carry PDH E1 and T1 traffic in addition to ethernet.

Applications where solar powering may be necessary was a key consideration in the design so only 6-8 W is consumed with various powering options including PoE.

WPA/AES-128 encryption is provided but where higher security is required, the company can provide high-level encryption.
