Hytera was the official radio supplier for the WGC-HSBC 2014 held earlier this month at the Shanghai Sheshan International Golf Club.

The company provided almost 200 digital two-way radios as well as an overall communication solution that supported scoring management, ruling, security and hospitality, enabling successful operation of the tournament.

Behind the scenes was a professional scoring management team from the European Tour. The team needed to provide instant data to several websites such as those of the WGC, HSBC Golf, PGA Tour and European Tour for their online broadcasting. This was a critical part of the overall operation and involved substantial demand for real-time communication.

“The radio on the course is vital for us to get the first-hand information from the tees,” said Paul White, the scoring services manager for the European Tour.

“Radiowise this week, it’s been very good quality supplied by Hytera … the reception has been very clear around the whole golf course, which can make our job easier. Without the clarity, we would be struggling to hear the correct information,” added White.

During the tournament, Hytera DMR PD688 portable terminals could be seen around the course being used by scorers, referees, marshals, IMG staff and PGA officials.

“Critical communication is one of the very important areas to guarantee successful operation. We are very glad to have Hytera here being our communication equipment partner and providing us very good quality products,” said Dai Hai Yan, the tournament director of IMG Golf.
