Simoco Group has been awarded a five-year contract with its partner UCA (United Commercial Agencies) to deliver a DMR solution to Bahrain International Airport, which sees 1052 flight departures per week.

Simoco demonstrated its DMR range during the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) last month. The company says its technology addresses a number of issues the airport operator faced with its current TETRA communications system, including poor coverage and low channel capacity.

The deployment will comprise a Simoco Xd Tier III trunked radio system, designed for call management, intelligent call routing and seamless wide-area multisite working. Units will include 500 SDP660 Portables and 100 SDM610 Mobile Radios with voice recording, which will help the airlines and ground-handling company improve their operations and efficiency in the airport. The system will also be fully integrated with the existing phone system at the airport.

UCA will implement the introduction of the system as well as providing maintenance and operational support.
