Cassidian BVR700 broadband vehicular router

Friday, 31 May, 2013

The BVR700 is a ruggedised vehicular router whose purpose is to provide wireless broadband data to various IT equipment deployed inside vehicles. The terminal is specially designed to provide resilience and security. It features an LTE 700/UMTS module that delivers fast, responsive broadband wireless communications to public safety first responders - providing anytime, anywhere access to mission-critical field applications.

A modular architecture makes the BVR700 versatile and enables easy upgrades to additional networks operating in specific LTE bands by simply adding plug-ins, ie, either standardised wireless mini modules (PCIe - Peripheral Component Interconnect express) or external modems. The modular approach ensures that the BVR700 can be upgraded when new wireless technologies become available. Existing modems can be added via ethernet or USB connections.

The BVR700 automatically selects the best wireless connectivity from the available bearers, including 4G LTE and commercial bands, as well as Wi-Fi. The selection of the best available connectivity depends on the module configuration and the quality of service (QoS). This process is completely seamless for the user, since the bearer automatically handles the intelligent algorithms in the BVR700, which also ensures that bandwidth allocation is enhanced for maximum performance.

The BVR700’s shock, vibration, temperature and water specifications result in a modular and rugged design that meets public safety durability requirements, meaning that it can be installed in a wide variety of vehicles, including cars, trucks, tracked vehicles and motorcycles.

An integrated 2-port gigabit ethernet switch makes it possible for the BVR700 to host a number of different clients, including laptops and in-vehicle terminals, as well as portable and fixed high-definition video cameras. The BVR700’s WLAN access point creates a hotspot that extends coverage outside of the vehicle to portable Wi-Fi-enabled devices.
