Anritsu has introduced the MD8470A signalling tester, designed to enable the wireless communications industry to rapidly develop and deploy new services and applications onto next-generation mobile phones. The tester provides a complete 'network simulator on the desk' allowing developers to test new features, services and applications on real handsets in a live environment with the convenience of a desktop test unit.

This test concept means that developers will no longer require access to live test networks and infrastructure to be able to test and develop new attractive mobile-based services. The device supports multiple communications systems including W-CDMA and GSM/GPRS, offering integrated system simulation from RF to core network gateway. The press of a single button provides the developer access to a test environment that is configured and managed on an integrated PC, and provides a true 'over the air' RF link to 3GPP compliant handsets.

After the tests have been performed, simulation results can be analysed with the protocol message decode function. Using the built-in control PC, data, servers and content can all be stored and managed within the test equipment.
