Trimble has released a battery-operated GPS satellite tracking device for budget conscious fleet owners, bus companies and trucking companies - and even consumers who just want to keep track of their teenage children borrowing the family car.

The TrimTracPro locator is a compact, easily hidden, lightweight vehicle or asset monitoring device that requires little, if any, installation when used in its battery-powered configuration. Motion-based reporting minimises power consumption and recurring communication costs. The device features full quad band GSM (SMS and GPRS), a highly sensitive GPS engine and motion or event-driven activation.

The tracker's features include: complete, low-cost, end-user device in new water-resistant housing; on demand polling and motion-based or scheduled reporting; multiple reporting mode: start and stop points only, time of day and working day of week based; small size allows discreet placement inside or outside of a vehicle; quad-band GSM 850/1900 MHz (PCS) and 900/1800 MHz (DCS) for worldwide coverage; short message service for wireless communications; GRPS operation for worldwide deployment and up to 1 min tracking; enhanced sensitivity for improved GPS performance; battery-powered or vehicle-powered option.
