Yokogawa has released the AQ7275 optical time domain reflectometer for a wide variety of optical fibre installation and maintenance applications.

It is the latest in the AQ7270 series, measures optical fibre lengths and losses and identifies failure locations. It features improved battery life and reduces the time required to perform on-site measurements when installing or maintaining optical fibre.

The OTDR is designed to reduce the measurement time for medium and short optical fibre installation tasks including the construction of access networks (communications links between telephone termination points and telephone exchanges) and user networks (communications links between user sites and the telephone termination points).

The signal processing circuits and arithmetic algorithms have been improved, reducing its measurement time in averaged measurement mode to a third of the previous model.

By reducing its waveform noise in real-time measurement mode, it has the capability to perform clear waveform measurements, thereby improving the efficiency of optical fibre installation.

Reducing the instrument’s power consumption has extended to twice the battery life of the previous model. With an optional external large capacity battery, an even longer operating time can be achieved, making it possible to carry out time-consuming optical fibre installation tasks without AC power.
