Pacific Wireless Communications has released the RDX3588 Rapid Deployment X-Ponder covering the 403-520 MHz band. Designed specifically for use by Law Enforcement and Emergency Response Agencies worldwide, the ruggedised unit can operate on either P25 digital or analog 12.5/25 kHz channels. Secure users can take advantage of the digital DES-OFB and/or Motorola XL series algorithm capabilities.

Fully self-contained, the sub 13 kg unit comes in a watertight suitcase allowing it to be deployed instantly and can be equipped with up to 48 user selectable modes. Internal Li-Ion batteries deliver 24 h continuous operation at a 30% transmit duty cycle, making it suitable for first responders or in short term siege scenarios.

It can be then recharged on longer deployments by any 11-28 V source such as a car/truck battery or solar panel.

The device can be configured to allow it to operate as an RF gateway allowing different channels/talkgroups to be patched together where interoperability is required at an incident scene. Additionally, the unit can be mode configured as a UHF repeater/trunked X-ponder. This allows any signal sent on, for example, a GRN trunked talkgroup, to be simultaneously transmitted through the local conventional repeater functionality and vice versa. This makes it suitable for range extension or coverage in rail cuttings or when away from mainstream network coverage.
