Westel has released its Irukandji repeater/base station platform following a demonstration held in conjunction with Icom Australia.

Based on the software-defined radio platform used in the company’s DRB-25 repeater/base station and operating in the 136-174 and 380-520 MHz bands the platform is a 50 W analog/project 25 repeater/base station housed in a 2RU (88 mm) high enclosure designed for mounting in a standard 19" rack.

Designed as a low-cost plug-in replacement for users wanting to upgrade their existing analog repeaters to a Project 25 capable platform, the device incorporates P25 IMBE vocoding, P25 DES OFB encryption and provides 2 and 4 W line interfaces to tone-based remotes and consoles and PSTN interfaces.

Provision is made for an internal transmit/receive relay.

Powered directly from 12 V and permitting a wide range of supply options, it is suitable for multiple channel installations. Programming and management is performed using Windows-based software and diagnostics monitoring tools.
