ACMA calls for feedback
In response to the government’s Exposure Draft of the Radiocommunications Bill 2017 and the final report on the Review of the ACMA, the ACMA is undertaking substantial stakeholder consultation as it designs and then settles on the new equipment rules framework.
A consultation paper available on the ACMA website details:
- existing arrangements for technical regulation
- the ACMA’s proposed approach to implement the exposure draft of the Bill
- concepts and design considerations that will enable the ACMA to prepare equipment rules should the exposure draft of the Bill be passed by parliament.
The ACMA is seeking comments from the public regarding the issues raised in the paper, being particularly interested in the views of stakeholders on concepts and design considerations for development of the Equipment Rules.
The Review of the ACMA made recommendations in relation to the ACMA’s remit, objectives, functions, governance, performance and resource base to ensure that it is a modern, agile and responsive ‘fit-for-purpose’ communications regulator.
A full list of the review’s 27 recommendations — all of which the federal government has said it either supports or supports in principle — is available on the ACMA website.
